Training No.2 :

Lead Auditor Training (LAT)

EN 15038 & ISO 19011

Professional Lead Auditor of the Austrian Standards Institute

Target Group

All experienced certified translators who want to work as Lead Auditor of the Austrian Standards Institute

Preconditions :

Attendees should have at least 5 years of experience in the translation industry and the certificate “International Certified Translator according to EN 15038”. After receiving the certificate of the LAT you will be an “observer” for 3 regular audits prior to acting as a Lead Auditor yourself to audit individuals and TSPs.

Your Benefits :

Become an official Lead Auditor of the Austrian Standards Institute to audit individuals, as well as translation service providers (TSPs), in your region according to EN 15038 in the name of one of the largest Standards Institutes in Europe. You will learn all the details about the certification scheme, which specifies the procedure employed by certification bodies under the auspices of the Language Industry Certification System. This certifies the services of translation service providers with respect to their conformity to the European Standard EN 15038:2006. A Lead Auditor shall carry out the audit according to this standard. A Lead Auditor is a qualified auditor who has in-depth knowledge of EN 15038 and experience with translation services.

Rising Demand in Certified Translators and Translation Service Providers :

As international communication is continually on the rise, there is an ever greater demand for good translation services. In regard to the quality of these services, one inevitably comes across the European Standard EN 15038, which is a certificate awarded to translation agencies which complete their work according to this norm (for details see http://en15038.blogspot.com/). During the certification audit, the auditor very carefully assesses the conformity of the applicant’s procedures with all the clauses of the standard; in this seminar you will learn how to conduct the audit in accordance with the related norm.

Becoming certified allows agencies to be listed amongst those translation service providers (TSP) worldwide, which fulfil the quality standard set by the European Committee for Standardization (CEN). This proves that the agency is able to provide translations of constantly high quality, as well as confirming that projects are comprehensively documented from start to finish, in a transparent and sound fashion; in order to become a Lead Auditor this seminar will teach you how to gather the needed evidence, how to conduct the related interviews with translators, project managers, administrators, revisers and reviewers etc.

The institute in charge of these certifications and trainings is the Language Industry Certification System® (LICS) with their headquarters in Vienna, Austria, and their global network of partners carrying out the actual certification process.

The LICS® process for certification & training (http://www.lics-certification.org/) involves systematic support from the auditing side and is particularly applicable to small and medium-sized companies, as the time spent by the auditor on site and the amount of paperwork is kept to a minimum. The Austrian Standards Institute also provides continual updates of how to improve agencies’ potential in the future and carry out annual re-audits to ensure that translation services are certified. All those aspects are subjects of the „Training to Lead Auditor according to EN 15038“
